CREATING GENDER-SENSITIVE DEVELOPMENT ENVIRONMENTS AT HOME AND IN CLASSROOMS
Estonian people’s low awareness of the principles of equal treatment of different genders have led to a situation where the prejudices, conservative and stereotypical expectations affect girls’ and boys’ choices of not only education but lead to differences in their subsequent socio- economic status and general well-being.
The overall objective of the project „Creating gender-sensitive development environments at home and in classrooms„ is to increase the training capability, effectiveness and co-operation of The Center of Excellence in School Improvement Foundation and MTÜ Perekoolitusühing Sina ja Mina to promote gender equality.
As a result of this project, the awareness of gender-related topics will increase among different target groups (educators, parents, trainers and counselors), and a broad-based and sustainable program will be created, which allows participants to gain practical skills and favorable attitudes towards gender-sensitive development environment for boys and girls.
The innovativeness of the project lies in its broad and systematic approach to creating gender-sensitive development environments. Educational staff, parents and other interested members of the community are all involved in programs aimed at shaping the attitudes and skills of adults surrounding boys and girls with different development needs.
